In the early days of the Internet, text ruled. Scientists at far-flung facilities could exchange ideas, and people marvelled at being able to send messages through e-mail. Newsgroups proliferated and suddenly you could be receiving advice from people halfway around the world. Then, in 1993, the first graphical browser (named Mosaic) was born and a whole new universe came into being. Tell the truth, what was the first thing your eye went to on this page? It was probably the sunflower. Graphics can be used to inform, to highlight, and to set a mood. They also often have the effect of cluttering and distracting. The graphic designers at PlasmaLink take special care that the graphics enhance, without detracting from the other content on the web page. Whenever you see a flashy graphic on a web site, ask yourself, "How is this graphic encouraging me to learn more about the company's products and services?" A surprising percentage of the time, the effect of the graphic is to slow down browsing of the site and actually DISCOURAGE visitors from learning more. Our graphic design philosophy is, "Simple is better." |
